The Jimnyak appends a dissent worth preserving: one version omits the white atractylodes and is named Boeum-san. Though it is said of atractylodes that 'in the Blood it follows the Blood, in the Qi it follows the Qi,' in truth it must not be used together with Kidney-channel medicinals — and Wang Jiezhai's placing it inside a Yin-supplementing formula is an oversight even the illustrious may not have caught: it should be removed (Jimnyak 集略).

Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑
治陰虛火動, 潮熱盜汗, 痰嗽咯血, 脉沈數, 肌肉消瘦. 白芍藥ㆍ當歸ㆍ白朮 各一錢三分, 川芎ㆍ熟地黃ㆍ知母(蜜炒)ㆍ天門冬 各一錢, 黃柏(蜜炒)ㆍ陳皮 各七分, 生地黃(酒洗)ㆍ甘草(灸) 各五分, 乾薑(炒紫色) 三分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑三片, 水煎服. ○一方, 無白朮, 名補陰散. 朮雖云在血從血, 在氣從氣, 其實不可與腎經藥同用. 王節齋以白朮入補陰內用, 恐高明者亦未及悟也, 宜去之. 《明醫》 《集略》
Translation
Treats Yin vacuity with fire stirring: tidal heat, night sweats, phlegm cough with expectorated blood, a sunken rapid pulse, and flesh wasting away. White peony, Korean angelica, and white atractylodes, 1.3 don each; cnidium, prepared rehmannia, honey-fried anemarrhena, and asparagus root, 1 don each; honey-fried phellodendron and tangerine peel, 0.7 don each; wine-washed raw rehmannia and roasted licorice, 0.5 don each; dried ginger fried to a purple color, 0.3 don.
