Saposhnikovia and Angelica Drink

Bangpungdanggwieum-ja

한글 방풍당귀음자  ·  Pinyin Fang Feng Dang Gui Yin Zi

防風當歸飮子

The Dansim appends a full herb-by-herb rationale: rhubarb drains the Yang-brightness damp heat out through the stool; talcum downs the triple burner's reckless fire out through the urine; scutellaria cools the diaphragm; saposhnikovia clears head and eyes; ginseng and licorice supplement the Qi; angelica and peony supplement the Blood — with not half a flavor of acrid, fragrant, drying-hot mistaken medicine among them.

Talcum 3 don; bupleurum, ginseng, red poria, and licorice, 1 don each; rhubarb, Korean angelica, red peony, and saposhnikovia, 0.5 don each. Cut the above, make one dose, add 3 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take. — Rhubarb drains the Yang-brightness damp heat, exiting by the stool; talcum downs the triple burner's reckless fire, exiting by the urine; scutellaria cools the diaphragm; saposhnikovia clears head and eyes; ginseng and licorice supplement the Qi; angelica and peony supplement the Blood — and there is not half a flavor of acrid, fragrant, drying-hot mistaken medicine in it. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Danxi's demonstration formula — fire drained by two doors, Qi and Blood restocked while it leaves, and the closing boast of its commentary is the whole vacuous-fire ethic in one line: not half an herb of the hot aromatic kind. A clearing formula that audits its own ingredient list. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
