White Phoenix Paste
Baekbong-go
한글 백봉고 · Pinyin Bai Feng Gao
Food-ritual formula in two acts. First: the duck is bound, its neck opened, and the dripping blood stirred into warmed aged wine measured to the patient's capacity and drunk — 'it enters the lung channel directly, moistening and supplementing that lung.' Then: the duck is plucked and drawn, a pitted jujube is packed with Samryeong-pyeongwi-san powder (about 1 doe of the powder in all) and the dates fill the duck's belly, which is bound with hemp, set in an earthen crock ringed with slow coals, and braised in one bottle of aged cooking wine added dry in three pourings. The duck is then eaten; the dates are shade-dried and eaten at will, sent down with a ginseng decoction — after which Bosu-dan is taken.

Translation
Treats vacuity taxation with cough of blood and Lung wilting. One black-billed white duck; plump jujubes 3 doe; Samryeong-pyeongwi-san 1 doe; aged cooking wine 1 bottle. Bind the duck; gauge how much wine the patient can drink and warm that measure; open the duck's neck and drip the blood into the wine, stir evenly, and drink — it enters the lung channel directly, moistening and supplementing that lung. Then pluck the duck dry, open a hole at its side, remove and wipe away the entrails; pit the jujubes and pack each with the Samryeong-pyeongwi powder, fill them into the duck's belly, bind with hemp, set the duck in an earthen crock, ring it with slow coals, and braise with the aged wine boiled dry, added in three pourings, until dry. Then eat it. The dates are shade-dried and eaten at will, sent down with a ginseng decoction, after which Bosu-dan is taken. — Sinseo 新書 (Donguibogam · Heoro)
