治元藏虛冷, 臍腹痛, 泄瀉不止. 四柱散本方加訶子ㆍ肉豆蔲 等分, 剉, 水煎服. 《三因》

Translation

Treats the original viscus vacuous and cold, with pain around the navel and a diarrhoea that will not stop. To the Saju-san base formula add chebula and nutmeg in equal part; cut up and decoct in water. — Samin Bang 三因 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The four pillars with chebula and nutmeg making six, and the two additions are both binders — so the formula is Saju-san for a stool that has stopped responding to warming alone. The Bogam's habit of presenting these as a named family rather than separate prescriptions lets a reader see the escalation: four pillars to warm, six to warm and bind, eight (below) to warm, bind and astringe with poppy husk. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
