Translation

Treats internal obstruction with dimness in the aged. Prepared rehmannia, Sichuan pepper lightly stir-fried, and chrysanthemum in equal parts; powder them, make honey pills the size of parasol-tree seeds, and take fifty to seventy on an empty stomach with salt decoction. Once there was an old man who used always to give alms to wandering monks. He met a Daoist and entertained him for some days, and on parting the Daoist, seeing that the old man's eyes were dim and watering, left him this formula; taking it, he found it divinely effective. — Uiseol 醫說 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three medicinals in equal parts and a story to carry them — rehmannia to fill, chrysanthemum to clear, pepper to warm and move. The story is the point of its survival: a formula with three ingredients and no theory needs a reason to be remembered, and a parting gift from a Daoist is a good one. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
