Translation

Treats the spleen and stomach vacuous and weak, with food not advancing, a yellow face and wasted flesh, oppression and stuffiness of chest and diaphragm, food undigested, and perhaps belching and acid swallowing. Atractylodes lancea 2 don; ginseng and white atractylodes 1 don each; tangerine peel, magnolia bark, white poria and licorice (mix-fried) 7 pun each; medicated leaven (stir-fried) and barley sprout (stir-fried) 5 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, and decoct with 3 slices of ginger and 2 jujubes; or powder it, bind with honey into pills the size of a firmiana seed, and take 2 don at a time with rice water. — Piryong 必用 (Donguibogam · Wibu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Pyeongwi-san and Sagunja-tang combined, with leaven and malt to digest. The section's three formulas are a ladder: Pyeongwi-san for the full stomach, Igong-san for the empty one, and this for the empty stomach that also will not take food in — 飮食不進, the sign named in the formula's title. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
