Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治下部惑瘡. 雄黃ㆍ靑箱子ㆍ苦參ㆍ黃連各二錢, 桃仁一錢. 右爲末, 以生艾汁和如棗核大, 綿褁, 納下部. 《得效》

Translation

Treats the delusion-pattern sores of the lower body. Realgar, celosia seed, sophora root and coptis, 2 don each; peach kernel, 1 don. Powder, bind with fresh mugwort juice into pieces the size of a date stone, wrap in cotton wool and insert into the lower orifice. — Deukhyo 得效 (Donguibogam · Han, lower)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A suppository, which is what 銳 means here — a sharp-ended pessary shaped to be inserted — and one of the clearest pieces of local pharmacology in the Bogam. Realgar is arsenic sulphide and does kill what it touches, which is why it was the drug of choice for persistent sores; sophora root and coptis dry and cool, celosia seed was used for sores of the lower body specifically, and peach kernel moves the blood. Bound with fresh mugwort juice rather than honey because the mugwort is part of the treatment.
