Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

快氣寬中, 除脹消食. 黑丑(頭末)ㆍ蘿葍子(炒)ㆍ木香ㆍ檳榔各等分. 右爲末, 滴水和丸梧子大. 薑湯下三五十丸. 《大成》一名小檳榔元. 《得效》

Translation

Quickens the qi and loosens the centre, removes distension and disperses food. Black morning glory seed (first milling only), radish seed (stir-fried), costus and areca in equal parts. Powder them, make water-drop pills the size of a firmiana seed, and take thirty to fifty down with ginger decoction. Also called Minor Areca Pill. — Daeseong 大成 (Donguibogam · Changman)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four medicinals in equal parts, and morning glory seed is the only one that drives. The other three move qi and dissolve food, so the purge is aimed at what is stagnant rather than at the fluid. **Contains morning glory seed, a purgative.
