Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治癃閉急痛. 甘草梢ㆍ木通各三錢, 梔子二錢, 葵子ㆍ滑石各一錢. 右末, 二錢, 燈心湯調下. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats retention with acute pain. Licorice root tips and akebia 3 don each; gardenia 2 don; mallow seed and talc 1 don each. Powder them and take 2 don stirred into juncus decoction. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Sobyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

甘草梢, the fine tips of the licorice root — held to reach the end of the urethra and ease the pain there. The chapter uses the tips rather than the root wherever the pain is in the penis, and this is the first of them. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
