Translation

This is Oryeong-san with the one drug cassia bark removed. (Its formula is in the Cold chapter.) — Donguibogam · Daebyeon

Clinical commentary 臨床

One line in the Bogam and one of the most used formulas in the tradition. Taking the cassia bark out of Oryeong-san removes its warmth and leaves a plain diuretic quartet, which is what a hot diarrhoea with scant urine wants. The subtraction is the whole teaching: the same four drugs serve a cold pattern or a hot one depending on a single ingredient, and the physician is expected to make that judgement rather than reach for a different prescription. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
