Donguibogam

Translation

Treats heat bound in the stomach, with the grain digested fast and a good appetite but no flesh forming — this is named 食㑊. Ginseng, acorus, polygala, red poria, lycium root bark and achyranthes (wine-steeped) 1 nyang each. Powder them, make honey pills the size of a firmiana seed, and take thirty to fifty with rice water at any hour. — Hagan 河間 (Donguibogam · Yuk)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Lycium root bark to cool the heat that is burning the food, ginseng to hold what is left, and acorus and polygala for the spirit — a formula for the patient who eats well and still wastes. 19.5's 食㑊 is that presentation, and hyperthyroidism and untreated diabetes both produce it. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
