Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治胃冷咳逆. 沉香ㆍ白豆蔲ㆍ紫蘇葉 各等分. 右爲末, 每一錢, 以柿蔕煎湯調下. 《入門》

Translation

Treats hiccup from a cold stomach. Aquilaria, round cardamom and perilla leaf, in equal parts. Grind to a powder and give 1 don each time, stirred into a decoction of persimmon calyx. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three aromatics and nothing else, given as a powder in persimmon calyx tea — the simplest of the chapter's hiccup formulas and the one it offers twice, here for a cold stomach and again at 3.22's 食塞咳逆 for the hiccup that follows a meal eaten too fast. All three drugs are volatile and are therefore powdered rather than boiled, with the one non-aromatic ingredient supplying the vehicle. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
