Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治陽毒發狂極甚, 姑以劫之. 卽前<a href='/formulas/samhwangseokgo-tang'>三黃石膏湯</a>去麻黃ㆍ豆豉, 加芒硝ㆍ大黃, 入薑一片, 棗二枚, 水煎, 臨熟入泥漿淸水二匙, 調服. 《入門》

Translation

Treats yang toxin with raving mania at its height; for the present it is arrested by force. That is, the preceding Samhwang-seokgo-tang with the ephedra and fermented soybean removed and mirabilite and rhubarb added, with one slice of ginger and two jujubes; decoct in water, and as it finishes stir in two spoons of the clear water from settled clay and take. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Han)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Two drugs out, two in, and the formula's whole direction reverses: Samhwang-seokgo-tang opens the surface and cools, this one shuts the surface and purges. The Immun's qualification is the honest part — 姑以劫之, for the present arrest it by force, which concedes that the treatment is a holding action against a case running out of control rather than a cure.
