Translation

Treats cold damage and heat disease where the heat is at its extreme and the patient runs about raving. Egg white, one; white honey, one large spoonful; mirabilite, 3 don. Combine the three together and take stirred into cool water. — Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Han, lower)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three white things, none of them cooked: this is a cold draught, not a decoction. Mirabilite is the active drug — a salt purgative that pulls heat down through the bowel — and the egg white and honey are there to coat it, because mirabilite alone on an inflamed stomach will be vomited back. The whole point is that the patient is too wild to be nursed through a decoction, so the remedy is something that can be mixed in a cup of cool water and got down at once. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
