Translation

Treats cramping sinews in sudden turmoil. Quince, 4 don; evodia, 2 don; dry-fried fennel, 1 don; honey-roasted licorice, 4 fun. Cut up, make one packet, add three slices of ginger, ten perilla leaves, a pinch of salt and one smoked plum, and decoct together. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Gwallan)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Mogyu-san built out into a full decoction: the same quince and evodia, with fennel for the cold in the abdomen, and salt and smoked plum added at the end — the salty and sour pair again. Where Mogyu-san is a drink given in the crisis, this is the formula for cramps that persist once the vomiting and diarrhoea have stopped. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
