Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑
治黃疸. 麻黃 一兩, 好酒一升半, 煮至半去滓, 頓服之, 冬用酒, 春夏用水. 《仲景》
Translation
Treats jaundice. Ephedra 1 nyang boiled in 1.5 seung of good wine down to half; strain off the dregs and take at a draught. In winter use wine; in spring and summer use water. — Junggyeong 仲景 (Donguibogam · Hwangdal)
Clinical commentary 臨床
One medicinal, and the vehicle changes with the season — wine in winter, water in spring and summer. Wine is warm and carries the ephedra outward more forcefully, which suits a body that is already closed by cold; in warm weather that extra push would be excessive.
