Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治傷寒太陽經發熱ㆍ惡寒ㆍ頭痛ㆍ無汗ㆍ脉浮緊. 麻黃ㆍ桔梗ㆍ前胡ㆍ黃芩ㆍ陳皮ㆍ半夏(製) 各一錢, 杏仁ㆍ細辛各八分, 防風七分, 甘草四分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入生薑三片, 水煎服. 《入門》

Translation

Treats taiyang channel cold damage with fever, aversion to cold, headache and no sweating, and a floating tight pulse. Ephedra, platycodon, peucedanum, scutellaria, tangerine peel and processed pinellia, 1 don each; apricot kernel and asarum, 8 fun each; saposhnikovia, 7 fun; licorice, 4 fun. Cut up, make one packet, add three slices of fresh ginger and decoct in water. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Han)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Mahwang-tang's indication word for word, but where Zhongjing answers it with four drugs the Immun answers it with ten, and the six added are all directed at the lung and its phlegm: platycodon, peucedanum, tangerine peel, pinellia, scutellaria. That addition tells you what these later compilers were actually seeing — a taiyang cold that came with a cough, which the classical formula does not address.
