Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治太陽瘧, 無汗. 卽前方去桂枝, 加麻黃也. 劑法ㆍ服法同上. 《綱目》

Translation

Treats taeyang malaria without sweating. It is the preceding formula with cinnamon twig removed and ephedra added. The method of compounding and the method of taking are the same as above. — Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Haehak)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The same four-herb frame as Gyejiganghwal-tang with cinnamon twig out and ephedra in, and the whole substitution rests on the single sign of no sweating (無汗). Gangmok writes no weights and no preparation here at all, saying only that compounding and taking are as above, which is how the corpus comes to carry two formulas of identical dose and one swapped drug. The pair is a diagnostic device as much as it is two prescriptions. The chapter is teaching that malaria sitting in the taeyang division divides on whether the surface sweats, and that nothing else about the treatment needs to change. Ephedra at 1 don 5 fun is a moderate classical dose, but ephedrine is a cardiovascular stimulant and the herb is restricted or prohibited in many jurisdictions. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
