治陰陽易及勞復病. 刮取靑竹皮 一升, 水三升, 煮取一升, 分二服. ○一名竹茹湯. 《綱目》

Translation

Treats the yin-yang exchange disease and relapse from exertion. Scrape off 1 seung of green bamboo skin, decoct in 3 seung of water, take 1 seung and divide into two doses. ○ Also called Jukyeo-tang 竹茹湯. — Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Han, lower)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A single drug, which is why the alternative name matters: 竹皮 and 竹茹 are the same thing, the green outer layer scraped from a bamboo stem. Decocting a seung of it down from three to one is a long reduction for a mild drug, and the point is to get a drinkable volume of something gentle into a convalescent rather than to concentrate a strong effect. The simplest formula in this section and the safest. For anything beyond nausea and mild heat, the compound formulas that follow are better suited. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
