Translation

Treats alcohol accumulation. Mume flesh and coptis (wine-steeped overnight) 1 nyang each; fermented pinellia 7 don; bitter orange fruit and amomum 5 don each; costus 4 don; apricot kernel 3 don; croton frost 1 don. Powder them, make pills with steamed cake the size of a mung bean, and take eight or ten down with plain hot water. — Uihak Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Mume and coptis at the head — sour and bitter together, the classical pairing for the sour regurgitation that follows drinking. Steeping coptis in wine to treat an alcohol accumulation is the like-treats-like reasoning the section applies throughout. Note the dose: eight or ten pills, against the fifty to seventy of the formulas without croton. **Contains croton frost, which is toxic. Not suitable for self-administration.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
