Translation

Treats alcohol aggregation that does not disperse, with abdominal distension, acid swallowing and retching counterflow, and no appetite. Medicated leaven (stir-fried) and barley sprout (stir-fried) 1 nyang each; coptis 5 don, dry-fried together with 3 croton kernels, the croton then discarded. Powder them, make pills with boiling water the size of a firmiana seed, and take fifty to seventy down with ginger decoction. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three medicinals, and the third is processed by a method this chapter uses repeatedly: coptis is dry-fried with croton kernels and the croton is thrown away. What remains is coptis carrying a trace of croton's driving force without its violence — the same technique as the evodia and alpinia frying in Yeonna-hwan at 1.7.2. The name is the formula: leaven and malt, the two medicinals that break down what was fermented. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
