治卒中痰塞. 皂角ㆍ蘿葍子 等分爲末, 每二錢, 水煎盡服, 卽吐. 《醫林》 ○一名蘿葍膏. 《得效》

Translation

Treats sudden stroke with phlegm blocking. Gleditsia pod and radish seed, equal parts, powdered; 2 don each time, decocted in water and drunk off, and vomiting follows at once. Also called Nabok-go. — Uirim Jipyo 醫林 · Uibang Yuchwi 得效 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Two drugs, both of them saponin-bearing, and both of them emetic in quantity. Gleditsia pod is the tradition's standard phlegm-expelling irritant and radish seed descends qi and breaks up food stagnation; taken together as a strong decoction they empty the stomach within minutes. This is the version to reach for when the problem is audible phlegm rather than depth of coma — though in a patient who cannot protect the airway, inducing vomiting is exactly the wrong thing to do, and that is the limit of the whole 取吐 method. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
