Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治腸風. 在糞前爲近, 肝腎血也; 在糞後爲遠, 心肺血也. 胡桃仁ㆍ破故紙(炒)ㆍ槐花(炒) 各三兩半, 皂角刺(燒灰) 二兩. 右爲末, 米飮或溫酒調下二錢, 空心. 《御院》

Translation

Treats intestinal wind. Blood before the stool is near blood, from liver and kidney; blood after the stool is far blood, from heart and lung. Walnut kernel, psoralea (stir-fried) and sophora flower (stir-fried) 3 nyang 5 don each; gleditsia spine (burnt to ash) 2 nyang. Powder them and take 2 don on an empty stomach with rice water or warm wine. — Eowon 御院 (Donguibogam · Huieum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

糞前爲近, 糞後爲遠 — blood before the stool is near, blood after it is far. The distinction is about how high in the gut the bleeding starts, and it is the right question: blood coating the outside of a stool comes from the anus, blood mixed through it from higher up. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
