Translation

Treats a blood concretion like a cup, below the navel and painful. Prepared rehmannia 2 nyang; dry-fried gadfly, leech fried with glutinous rice and the rice discarded, and peach kernel, 50 pieces each. Powder the above and bind with honey into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 70–80 pills with warm wine on an empty stomach. — Jeongjeon 正傳 (Donguibogam · Po)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The classical answer to a mass you can feel — rehmannia at two ounces as the ground, and then the tradition's two most aggressive blood-breakers, gadfly and leech, fifty of each. The lineage runs back to the Han dynasty's abdominal-mass formulas, where these same insects appear. Preserved here as the record shows it: an edition that omits the prescriptions it would not fill is not an edition. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
