Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治吐瀉後成慢驚風, 亦治慢脾風. 卽前方加羌活ㆍ防風ㆍ天麻ㆍ全蝎也. 《入門》

Translation

Treats chronic fright wind that has come on after vomiting and diarrhoea; it also treats chronic spleen wind. It is the preceding formula with notopterygium, saposhnikovia, gastrodia and scorpion added. — Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Soa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Gwaneum-san with the wind drugs bolted on: notopterygium, saposhnikovia, gastrodia and a scorpion. The base was a small, mild tonic for a wasting child, and the additions are what the tradition reached for once the twitching had actually started. 亦治慢脾風 — it is also pushed one stage further, into the coldest and worst of the three pictures. The addition that matters is the scorpion, and it is the one with no weight. **Contains scorpion, a neurotoxic animal venom. The patient is a child, the text gives no dose by weight here at all, and the dried material cannot be dosed accurately. It must not be prepared.** The rest of the formula is harmless and would not have altered the course; what the child needed is set out at sinhyo-san-soa. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
