Translation

Supplements the vacuous Yin. Prepared rehmannia 2 nyang; phellodendron 1 nyang 5 don; anemarrhena, lycium fruit, lotus seed flesh, hostwood poria, and ginseng, 1 nyang each. Powder the above; steam rehmannia in wine to make a paste and bind pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 100 pills with plain boiled water. — Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Heoro)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The pill counterpart to the chapter's best-known Yin-enriching decoction, and the differences are worth noting: hostwood poria and lotus seed appear here where the decoction has neither, so this version settles the spirit as it cools. That makes it the form to reach for when the depletion heat is keeping someone awake. The binder is the chief herb itself, steamed in wine to a paste — the formula holding itself together. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
