Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑
治髮脫落, 神效. 側柏葉(焙乾) 八兩, 當歸(全身) 四兩. 右不犯鐵爲末, 水糊和丸梧子大, 酒或鹽湯下五七十丸, 日再. 《醫鑑》
Translation
Treats falling hair, with divine effect. Arborvitae leaf (baked dry) 8 nyang, Korean angelica (whole root) 4 nyang. Powder the above without letting iron touch them, form into water-paste pills the size of firmiana seeds, and take 50 to 70 with wine or salt decoction, twice daily. — Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Mobal)
Clinical commentary 臨床
Two herbs, taken internally, and the most practical hair-loss formula in the chapter — arborvitae leaf cools Blood and is the classical hair medicinal, Korean angelica supplies the Blood it cools. The 2:1 ratio puts the emphasis on cooling, which suits the picture the chapter describes at 鬚髮黃落: fire flaring and Blood drying in a young person losing hair.
