Different Kinds with Shared Feeling Pill

Iryuyujeong-hwan

한글 이류유정환  ·  Pinyin Yi Lei You Qing Wan

異類有情丸

Pill formula, bulk amounts: the powder is pounded with nine lengths of boar spinal marrow and refined honey into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; 70–80 pills with salted water on an empty stomach. For rich eaters and heavy drinkers, one or two hop of pig's bile may be added to carry the meaning of downbearing fire. Those who feel decline from middle age onward may take it as a regular restorative. Note on modern practice: tiger bone is prohibited under CITES and U.S. law; contemporary prescribing omits it.

Translation

Treats vacuity taxation, supplementing dual vacuity of Qi and Blood. Deer antler residue and butter-roasted tortoise plastron, 3 nyang 6 don each; wine-washed, butter-roasted deer antler and wine-boiled, butter-roasted tiger shin bone, 2 nyang 4 don each. Powder the above and pound with nine lengths of boar spinal marrow and refined honey into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 70–80 pills with salted water on an empty stomach. For the deer is Yang, and tortoise and tiger are Yin: kinds of blood and qi that possess feeling each follow their own kind — not the way of metal, stone, grass, and wood. For those of rich diet who drink well, one or two hop of pig's bile may be added to carry the meaning of downbearing fire. Those who feel decline from middle age onward may take this as a regular restorative. — Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Heoro)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The doctrine is in the name — deer is Yang, tortoise and tiger are Yin; blood-and-flesh kinds with feeling answer to their own kind, where metal, stone, grass, and wood cannot follow. Four ingredients, one argument. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
