Translation

Disperses concretion lumps and cold or hot accumulation and gathering, breaks phlegm aggregation, and digests retained food. Sparganium and curcuma 2 nyang each — both wine-steeped three days, or one day in summer, then taken out and dry-fried yellow in a stone vessel together with 38 croton kernels, the croton then discarded and the white part soaked off with hot water; costus, bitter orange, green tangerine peel, fennel (stir-fried) and areca 1 nyang each. Powder them, make pills with wheat paste the size of a mung bean, and take thirty to fifty down with ginger decoction. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The croton-frying technique at its most elaborate: 38 kernels are fried with the two chief medicinals and then discarded, and the residue is further soaked off. Nothing toxic remains in the finished pill, which is why the dose can be thirty to fifty rather than the three of the Gukbang formulas above. Seven medicinals, all of them qi-movers and mass-breakers. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
