Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治酒泄. 乳香三錢, 鹿茸(燎去毛, 酥灸黃) 五錢, 肉豆蔲一兩, 每箇切作兩片, 入乳香在內, 麵裹煨, 麝香二錢(另硏). 右爲末, 陳米飯和丸梧子大, 米飮下五十丸. 《入門》

Translation

Treats wine diarrhoea. Frankincense, 3 don; deer antler velvet, singed free of hair and roasted yellow with butter, 5 don; nutmeg, 1 nyang, each fruit cut in two with the frankincense enclosed inside, wrapped in dough and roasted; musk, 2 don, ground separately. Powder, make pills with aged cooked rice the size of a paulownia seed, and take fifty in rice water. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Wine diarrhoea has its own section in this chapter, and the Immun's answer to it is a yang tonic rather than anything that addresses the drinking: antler velvet, musk, frankincense and nutmeg, all warm and expensive. The reading is that long drinking has burnt out the lower origin, which is not wrong about the direction of the damage — chronic alcohol use does produce a persistent diarrhoea through mucosal injury and pancreatic insufficiency — but no tonic repairs that while the drinking continues. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
