Translation

Cinnabar 2 don; dried rouge 1 don; ceruse 3 don; the flesh of five mume; borneol 5 don; a little chuanxiong. Powder finely, mix with saliva at bedtime and rub on the face, washing it off with warm water at dawn — fair as a child's face; a method of the divine immortals' subtle use. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Myeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Cinnabar and white lead on the face overnight. It is a cosmetic rather than a medicine, and the same two pigments were used as face paint in every court of the period, with the same consequences. **Contains cinnabar and ceruse, both severely toxic and absorbed through the skin. This must not be prepared.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
