Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治面上一切酒刺ㆍ風刺ㆍ黑櫅ㆍ斑子. 白芷ㆍ藿香ㆍ牙皂各二錢, 甘松ㆍ三乃子ㆍ白丁香ㆍ細辛ㆍ杏仁ㆍ密陀僧各一錢, 天花粉ㆍ白茯苓各一錢半, 樟腦五分, 白礬三分. 右爲末, 臨臥用津唾調或乳汁調, 敷面上, 明早溫水洗去, 其面如玉. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats all wine pimples, wind pimples, black moles and blotches of the face. Angelica dahurica, agastache and gleditsia thorn 2 don each; nardostachys, sand ginger, sparrow droppings, asarum, apricot kernel and litharge 1 don each; trichosanthes root and white poria 1 don 5 pun each; camphor 5 pun; alum 3 pun. Powder them, and at bedtime mix with saliva or with milk and spread on the face, washing it off with warm water next morning — and the face is like jade. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Myeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Mixed with one's own saliva or with milk at the bedside and washed off at dawn. 其面如玉, the face like jade, is the claim all three of these powders make, and the naming — red jade, jade countenance — is part of the selling. **Contains litharge, which is toxic.
