Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治食積痰. 瓜蔞仁ㆍ半夏麴ㆍ山査肉ㆍ神麴(炒) 各等分. 右爲末, 瓜蔞汁和丸梧子大, 以薑湯, 竹瀝下三五十丸. 《入門》

Translation

Treats food accumulation phlegm. Trichosanthes seed, fermented pinellia, hawthorn flesh and medicated leaven (stir-fried), equal parts. Powder them, make pills with trichosanthes juice the size of a firmiana seed, and take thirty to fifty down with ginger decoction and bamboo sap. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Damum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four medicinals, two for phlegm and two for food, which is the whole of the food phlegm concept in miniature. Fermented pinellia rather than the raw or ginger-processed drug is the choice worth noticing: the leaven is itself a digestive preparation, so it works on both halves of the problem at once.
