Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治傷冷, 腹肚䐜脹, 如覆栲栳, 喘息奔急. 厚朴三兩, 枳殼ㆍ乾薑ㆍ良薑各一兩二錢, 靑皮ㆍ陳皮ㆍ肉桂ㆍ全蝎各七錢. 右爲末, 醋糊和丸梧子大. 生薑橘皮湯下三五十丸. 《得效》

Translation

Treats damage from cold with the belly distended like an upturned basket, and panting breath that rushes and hurries. Magnolia bark 3 nyang; bitter orange, dry ginger and lesser galangal 1 nyang 2 don each; green tangerine peel, tangerine peel, cinnamon bark and scorpion 7 don each. Powder them, make pills with vinegar paste the size of a firmiana seed, and take thirty to fifty down with a decoction of fresh ginger and tangerine peel. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Changman)

Clinical commentary 臨床

如覆栲栳 — like an upturned wicker basket — is the image, and it says what the other formulas' indications do not: the belly is not merely full but domed and taut. With rushing breath alongside it, this is acute and severe. Magnolia bark at three nyang is the largest single dose in the section, and scorpion appears again as it did in Gichim-won, marking qi that has bound rather than merely gathered. **Contains scorpion, which is toxic.
