Clinical commentary 臨床

The description is the most vivid in the chapter and it is unmistakable: diarrhoea like the juice of rotten flesh. That is the stool of a severe bacillary dysentery, and the staged decoction that answers it is careful work — gardenia boiled hard first to draw out its bitter principle, scallion bulb added next, and the fermented soybean, which is the most volatile of the three, only at the end and wrapped so it can be lifted out. Three ordinary kitchen materials against a lethal illness, which is the measure both of the observation and of its limits. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
