Translation

Treats shaoyin disease with diarrhoea and pus and blood in the stool. Halloysite, 5 don, half raw and half stir-fried; dried ginger, 2 don; glutinous rice, 1 hop. Cut up, decoct in water down to half, strain, then stir in 1 don of finely powdered halloysite separately and take, twice a day. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Han)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The pharmacy here is better than it looks. Halloysite is halved, one half raw and one half stir-fried, and then a further portion is stirred into the strained decoction as a dry powder — so the patient receives the mineral in three states at once, the dissolved fraction acting high and the undissolved powder reaching the colon intact. That is a deliberate attempt at staged delivery, and the glutinous rice makes the whole into a demulcent gruel that coats as it goes. Pus and blood in the stool is dysentery or colitis, and an adsorbent clay with rice is close to what is still given. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
