Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治氣虛濁升多噫. 益智仁ㆍ大腹子ㆍ白檀香各一兩, 草豆蔲ㆍ橘皮ㆍ沈香ㆍ人參各五錢. 右爲末, 飯丸梧子大. 淡薑湯下七八十丸. 《入門》

Translation

Treats qi vacuous with the turbid rising and much belching. Alpinia, areca seed and sandalwood 1 nyang each; tsaoko, tangerine peel, aloeswood and ginseng 5 don each. Powder them, make rice pills the size of a firmiana seed, and take seventy or eighty down with weak ginger decoction. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Naesang)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The counterpart to the formula above: the same complaint read as vacuity rather than as depression. Where Paul-dan breaks with cyperus and coptis, this one supplements with ginseng and downbears with aloeswood and sandalwood. 濁升 — the turbid rising — is the mechanism, and it is the same one the Distension chapter treats at 3.7.
