Tangerine Peel Unripe Bitter Orange and Atractylodes Pill

Gyulpijichul-hwan

한글 귤피지출환  ·  Pinyin Ju Pi Zhi Zhu Wan

橘皮枳朮丸

Pill formula, bulk amounts: made and taken as Jichul-hwan — powdered, bound with rice baked wrapped in a lotus leaf, 50–70 to 100 pills with boiled water. The great method of this medicine lies in what it prizes: taken so that the person's stomach Qi grows thicker, then even fierce eating, much eating, heavy eating no longer inflicts damage.

Translation

Treats food and drink undispersed with glomus oppression below the heart: the base Jichul-hwan with tangerine peel 1 nyang added, made and taken as above. What the great method of using this medicine prizes: taking it strengthens the person's stomach Qi and makes it ever thicker, so that even fierce eating, much eating, and heavy eating no longer inflict damage (Dongwon 東垣). — Jichul-hwan was framed by Master Zhang Yilao: white atractylodes 2 nyang to supplement the spleen, unripe bitter orange 1 nyang to disperse glomus; with Dongyuan, tangerine peel 1 nyang was added to harmonize the stomach. One supplementing and one draining — simple and exactly apt: this truly grasps the intent of establishing a formula. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Naesang)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Danxi's admiring audit is attached to this one — Yilao's atractylodes to supplement, his own teacher's bitter orange to disperse, and Dongyuan's added tangerine peel to harmonize: 'one supplementing, one draining — simple and exactly apt, truly grasping the intent of formula-making.' Three herbs praised as a complete philosophy. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
