Donguibogam

Translation

Treats qi cough and phlegm cough very effectively. Tangerine peel, fresh ginger baked dry, and dry-fried medicated leaven, in equal parts. Grind to a powder, make pills the size of a paulownia seed with warm water, and give fifty to seventy down with rice water, twice a day. — Uihak Jeongjeon 正傳 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The same three materials as Gyulgang-hwan in equal parts, with the leaven dry-fried and counted as a drug rather than used only as paste. Nothing in it is strong, and that is the point: it is a formula for a cough that has gone on long enough that the patient will be taking it twice a day for weeks. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
