Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治胸痞痛徹背, 喘急妨悶. 瓜蔞仁ㆍ枳殼ㆍ半夏(製)ㆍ桔梗各一兩. 右爲末, 薑汁糊和丸梧子大, 薑湯下五七十丸. 《濟生》

Translation

Treats glomus of the chest with pain piercing through to the back, panting and hurried breath, and obstruction and oppression. Trichosanthes seed, bitter orange, pinellia (processed) and platycodon 1 nyang each. Powder them, bind with ginger-juice paste into pills the size of a firmiana seed, and take fifty to seventy with ginger decoction. — Jesaeng 濟生 (Donguibogam · Hyung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

痛徹背, 喘急 — pain piercing to the back with breathlessness. The classical description of chest impediment, and the picture overlaps closely with angina; trichosanthes with pinellia is still the base pair prescribed for it. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
