Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治痞氣, 胸滿不利, 煩悶欲死, 不論寒熱通用. 又傷寒結胸, 胸滿欲死, 服之神效. 桔梗ㆍ枳殼 各二錢, 甘草 一錢. 右剉, 作一貼, 薑 五片, 煎服. 《直指》

Translation

Treats glomus qi with the chest full and not free and vexed oppression near to death, used alike whether the cause is cold or heat. It also treats cold damage chest bind with the chest so full that one feels near death, and taking it is divinely effective. Platycodon and bitter orange 2 don each; licorice 1 don. Cut up, make one packet, add 5 slices of ginger and decoct. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Hyung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

不論寒熱通用 — used alike whether the cause is cold or heat, which is rare in this chapter and makes it the one formula to reach for before the cause is settled. Three medicinals, and the Jikji recommends it for the worst of the chest-bind cases too. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
