Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治諸瘧ㆍ久瘧. 草果ㆍ靑皮ㆍ陳皮ㆍ人參ㆍ赤茯苓ㆍ半夏ㆍ厚朴ㆍ蒼朮ㆍ白朮ㆍ檳榔各一錢, 良薑ㆍ甘草各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑五ㆍ棗二ㆍ梅一, 水煎服. 《直指》

Translation

Treats the various malarias and long malaria. Tsaoko fruit, green tangerine peel, aged tangerine peel, ginseng, red poria, pinellia, magnolia bark, black atractylodes, white atractylodes and areca seed, 1 don each; lesser galangal and licorice, 5 fun each. Cut them up, make one packet, add five slices of ginger, two jujubes and one mume plum, decoct in water and take. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Haehak)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Pyeongwi-san and Ijin-tang laid over each other — black atractylodes, magnolia bark, tangerine peel and licorice from the one, pinellia, tangerine peel, poria and licorice from the other — with ginseng and white atractylodes added to hold the middle up and tsaoko fruit, green tangerine peel, areca seed and lesser galangal added to warm and drive down. It is the chapter's standard composite for a malaria that has gone on long enough to deplete the patient. The Jikji is the source that supplies the chapter's theory of the 瘧母 and of the yellow water that collects in the flank, and its drug choice follows from it: nothing here clears heat, and everything moves fluid downward or dries it.
