Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治泄痢日久, 滑數瘦弱, 以此澁之. 龍骨ㆍ附子(炮)ㆍ枯白礬ㆍ訶子皮各一兩, 丁香ㆍ良薑ㆍ赤石脂ㆍ白豆蔲ㆍ縮砂各五錢, 木香三錢. 右爲末, 醋糊和丸梧子大, 粟米飮下三十丸. 《入門》

Translation

Treats a diarrhoea or dysentery of long standing, slippery and frequent with emaciation and weakness; this astringes it. Dragon bone, blast-fried aconite, calcined alum and chebula rind, 1 nyang each; clove, lesser galangal, halloysite, round cardamom and amomum, 5 don each; costus root, 3 don. Powder, make pills with vinegar paste the size of a paulownia seed, and take thirty in a decoction of foxtail millet. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

An astringent of the most uncompromising kind: dragon bone, alum, halloysite and chebula are all binders, aconite and galangal warm, and the aromatics keep the whole from stopping the bowel dead. Nothing in it treats a cause, and the Immun says as much — the indication is a diarrhoea that has already gone on so long that the patient is wasting, where arresting the loss is the only thing left.
