Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治心膽虛怯, 晝夜不睡, 百方不效, 服此如神. 人參五錢, 石膏三錢, 陳皮ㆍ半夏ㆍ白茯苓ㆍ枳實ㆍ竹茹ㆍ麥門冬ㆍ龍眼肉ㆍ甘草各一錢半, 酸棗仁(炒) 一錢. 右剉, 分作二貼, 水煎服. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats Heart and Gallbladder vacuous and timid, not sleeping day or night, a hundred remedies having failed — take this, and the effect is like a spirit. Ginseng 5 don; gypsum 3 don; tangerine peel, pinellia, white poria, unripe bitter orange, bamboo shavings, ophiopogon, longan flesh, and licorice, 1.5 don each; dry-fried sour jujube seed 1 don. Cut the above, divide into two packets, decoct in water and take. — Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Mong)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The name is the promise — a high pillow and no cares — and the indication is what earns it: not sleeping day or night, with a hundred remedies already tried. The construction is Warm the Gallbladder Decoction with five don of ginseng set at the head and longan flesh added, which tells you the reading: this patient is not merely phlegm-obstructed but genuinely empty, and the failed remedies were probably all sedating.
