Pill formula, bulk amounts: powdered and bound with honey into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; 50–70 pills on an empty stomach with salted water or warm wine, and again at bedtime. Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑
凡人無子, 多是精血淸冷, 或房勞過傷, 以致腎水欠旺, 不能直射子宮故爾, 豈可專責於母血之不足虛寒耶. 熟地黃ㆍ山茱萸 各三兩, 巴戟 二兩, 兎絲子ㆍ續斷(酒浸)ㆍ遠志(製)ㆍ蛇床子(炒) 各一兩半, 白茯神ㆍ山藥(酒蒸)ㆍ牛膝(酒洗)ㆍ杜沖(酒洗切酥炒去絲)ㆍ當歸身(酒洗)ㆍ肉蓯蓉(酒浸)ㆍ五味子ㆍ益智仁(鹽水炒)ㆍ鹿茸(酥灸) 各一兩, 加枸杞子 三兩, 人參 二兩. 右爲末, 蜜丸梧子大, 空心, 鹽湯或溫酒下五七十丸, 臨臥再服. 《回春》
Translation
In general, that a person is without children is mostly because the essence and Blood are clear and cold, or bedroom taxation has damaged them past bearing, so that the Kidney water is not exuberant and cannot reach the palace of the child directly. How then could the fault be charged wholly to insufficiency and vacuity cold in the mother's Blood? Prepared rehmannia and cornus, 3 nyang each; morinda 2 nyang; cuscuta, wine-soaked dipsacus, prepared polygala, and dry-fried cnidium monnieri, 1.5 nyang each; hostwood poria, wine-steamed dioscorea, wine-washed achyranthes, eucommia (wine-washed, sliced, butter-fried, threads removed), wine-washed angelica body, wine-soaked cistanche, schisandra, salt-water-fried alpinia, and butter-roasted deer antler, 1 nyang each; with lycium fruit 3 nyang and ginseng 2 nyang added.
