Translation

Excels at downbearing phlegm fire. Red tangerine peel 8 nyang and pinellia (cut up) 2 nyang: dissolve 5 don of salt in water, mix the two evenly in it, boil dry and roast. Then add arisaema, scutellaria, coptis and licorice, 1 nyang each. Powder them, make pills with steamed cake soaked in ginger juice, mung-bean size, and take fifty to seventy down with plain hot water. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Damum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Eight nyang of red tangerine peel against two of pinellia — a four-to-one ratio that makes this a qi-coursing formula carrying a phlegm formula rather than the other way round. Salt is the key to the processing: it is salty and cold, it directs downward and softens hardness, and boiling the two chief medicinals dry in salt water sets the whole formula's direction before the bitter cold herbs are even added. The name says the same thing — moisten and downbear. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
