Psoralea 6 nyang, fried with sesame until the color changes, the sesame then discarded; eucommia 6 nyang, soaked in ginger juice and fried; walnut kernel, aquilaria, frankincense, and myrrh, 3 nyang each. Powder the above; steep 6 nyang of cistanche in wine to a paste, work it into the medicines and pound a thousand strokes, forming pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 50–70 pills with warm wine or salted broth. — Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Yo)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Cheongah-won with the resins added — aquilaria, frankincense, and myrrh, the three that move Qi and blood and stop pain — and cistanche taken out of the powder to serve as the binder. The indication tells you when to choose it over the plain version: not simple depletion, but depletion into which cold has entered and where blood and Qi are now striking against one another. In practice, the chronic back that has flared. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
