Translation

Treats Kidney vacuity lumbar pain — wonderfully effective. Wine-fried eucommia, salt-water-fried psoralea, and dry-fried fennel, 1 nyang each; wine-washed cistanche, wine-steeped morinda, and blue salt, 5 don each. Powder the above; split open a pig's kidney, put the medicine inside and sew it shut, wrap in paper and roast through in embers. Each kidney makes one dose, sent down with yellow wine. — Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Yo)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The chapter's favorite delivery method, stated plainly: the medicine goes into a pig's kidney and the kidney goes into the patient. Like reaching like — the same reasoning that puts pig's kidney in the simples list and in Oesin-san. Beneath the theater, the powder itself is a well-built warming formula, and the salt used to process the psoralea has its own job, since salt is what sends a medicine to the Kidney. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
