Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治命門火衰, 腎寒陰痿, 元陽虛憊. 巴戟ㆍ肉蓯蓉ㆍ山茱萸ㆍ菟絲子各三兩, 破故紙二兩半, 石斛ㆍ胡蘆巴各二兩, 茴香一兩, 附子五錢. 右爲末, 蜜丸梧子大, 溫酒或鹽湯下五七十丸. 《入門》

Translation

Treats the life gate fire declining with the kidney cold and yin wilting, and the original yang vacuous and worn out. Morinda, cistanche, cornus and cuscuta 3 nyang each; psoralea 2 nyang 5 don; dendrobium and fenugreek 2 nyang each; fennel 1 nyang; aconite accessory root 5 don. Powder them, make honey pills the size of parasol-tree seeds, and take fifty to seventy with warm wine or salt decoction. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Jeoneum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A warming kidney tonic built for the cold-genitals section rather than the impotence one, and the difference shows in the proportions: the aconite is a twenty-fourth of the morinda, enough to light the life gate without making the formula an aconite formula. Dendrobium is the one cool medicinal, kept in so that the warming does not dry. **Contains aconite accessory root, which is toxic.
