Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治經漏不止, 氣弱困倦. 此中氣虛弱, 下陷之甚. 蒼朮ㆍ白朮ㆍ當歸ㆍ白芍藥各一錢半, 黃芪一錢, 陳皮ㆍ熟地黃各五分, 甘草(灸)ㆍ生地黃各三分, 柴胡二分. 右剉, 作一貼, 水煎服. 《東垣》

Translation

Treats menstrual spotting that will not stop, with the Qi weak and the person weary — this being the center Qi vacuous and weak, fallen in the extreme. Atractylodes, white atractylodes, Korean angelica, and white peony, 1.5 don each; astragalus 1 don; tangerine peel and prepared rehmannia, 5 fun each; roasted licorice and raw rehmannia, 3 fun each; bupleurum 2 fun. Cut the above, make one packet, decoct in water and take. — Dongwon 東垣 (Donguibogam · Po)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The gentlest entry on the flooding shelf, and the one whose indication most people would recognize — not a dramatic flood but a leak that will not stop, in someone worn out. The diagnosis given is emphatic: the center Qi is vacuous and fallen *in the extreme*. Four herbs share the chief's seat, two building the Blood and two the Qi, with two fun of bupleurum at the bottom doing the lifting.
